2023 Seoul Marathon

This is Korea’s top international marathon competition that won the highest certification of platinum from World Athletic (WA). It has also been designated by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) as a World Athletics Heritage along with the Boston and Athens Marathons. There is a full course that starts at Gwanghwamun Plaza and a 10 km course that starts at Olympic Park. You can also split the full course among a team of two or four people at the Seoul 42195 Relay. 35,000 participants are expected at the marathon.

    With over 38,000 marathoners from over 70 countries worldwide participating, Korea's largest international marathon is one of only 10 top-tier Platinum Label competitive races certified by World Athletics and is also designated as one of the three major World Athletics Cultural Heritages alongside the Boston and Athens Marathons. This event is famous for allowing elite athletes and domestic & international participants to set new records due to the course’s minimal difference in elevation. An expo in which various sports companies take part will be held as well.

    The Strawberry Festival is held in Nonsan, the largest strawberry producing area in Korea, features fun-filled programs such as a strawberry parade, strawberry costume play, & strawberry picking experience where visitors can pick and taste fresh strawberries. They can taste delicious food made with strawberries by visiting the strawberry dessert hall & strawberry restaurant. The ‘helicopter trip to Topjeong Lake’ & ‘helicopter exhibition experience’ are also planned in association with the Army Aviation School.

    This annual event memorializes the stature & feats of Admiral Yi Sunsin, the legendary hero of the Japanese invasions of Korea, and is Korea's premier cherry blossom festival. Various programs being held in the Jinhae Jungwon Rotary area, adorned with cherry blossoms in full bloom, include the Paldo Folk Flea Market, Jinhae Blossom Music Festival, a memorial service honoring Admiral Yi Sunsin, & a victory parade. Also, the Military Honor Guard Band Festival will be held where visitors can watch a ceremonial marching performance & precisely timed performance of the honor guard.

    Jeju’s spring road full of people walking from all over the world! The Seogwipo Canola Flower International Walking Competition is an East Asian flower walking league that is staged in Seogwipo, Korea (canola flower) in March, Kurume, Japan (azalea flower) in April & Dalian, China (acacia flower) in May. During this an event that promotes harmony and shares cultures, visitors can enjoy nature & culture and get swept up by the warm atmosphere of Jeju while walking along the canola flower road that announces spring.

    The Daegaya Festival is held in Goryeong, the capital city of Daegaya, which was a mysterious ancient kingdom that flourished with its own history and thriving culture & arts based on a highly developed iron culture even rivaling the prominent Baekje and Silla dynasties 1,500 years ago. A theme hall will be set up to explore the world heritage value of the Jisan-dong Ancient Tombs in Goryeong, and a forest playground & night trekking using the Jisan-dong Ancient Tombs will take place. Also, there will be featured 100 gayageum performances, experiential programs, & creative musicals using the gayageum, the representative instrument of Daegaya.

    This special marathon that stretches along a path of cherry blossoms in full bloom on a spring day is Gyeongju’s representative sporting event that launched in 1992.     Selected as an international athletics city by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), this marathon held every year in Daegu is a competition held for the last 23 years since 2001 and the only gold label competition in Korea certified by World Athletics (WA). It consists of elite full course (42.195km), master full course (42.195km), full relay (21.0975km), 10km, & health-minded running events. Additionally, it is establishing itself as an international competition that participates in sustainability & carbon neutrality by recycling plastic bottles to produce medal straps and using biodegradable vinyl to send out souvenirs.

    During Korea's largest cultural heritage festival held twice in the spring & fall at Seoul's five marquee palaces (Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, Deoksugung Palace, Changgyeonggung Palace, & Gyeonghuigung Palace) and Jongmyo Shrine, performances, exhibitions, experiences, & ritual reenactments that reflect the characteristics of each palace hall & location will be held. This year, to celebrate its 10th anniversary, an opening ceremony with an expanded share of traditional performances, a traditional market, & a traditional craft exhibition is scheduled to be staged for the first time at the K-Royal Culture Festival. During the festival period, the 'Gung Pass'(Palace Pass) is also scheduled to be sold, which is a special admission ticket that allows unlimited visits to Seoul's five major palaces.

    The world's largest prehistoric cultural festival held at the Jeongok-ri ruins in Yeoncheon, where the first humans on the Korean Peninsula inhabited, originated as a small festival in 1993 to widely publicize, preserve, and utilize the Jeongok-ri ruins, which are significant in the world's prehistoric cultural history. It has now become Korea's most prominent prehistoric cultural festival with more than 100,000 visitors every year.     This herbal medicine festival promotes the essence of Korea's herbal medicine culture at home & abroad. Daegu Yangnyeongsi has been opened twice a year since around 1658 as a world-class herbal medicine distribution base that has supplied herbal medicines domestically as well as abroad. It was certified as Korea's oldest herbal medicine city by the Korea Guinness Committee in 2001. During the festival, visitors can avail themselves of various herbal medicine experiences in the Yangnyeongsi area, including herbal medicine treatment experience, herbal medicine beauty experience, & the herbal medicine cutting contest.

    During Gyeonggi-do’s representative all-round festival held to foster ‘greater peace’ through the history & diversity of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on the Korean Peninsula, various events, including an international music festival, peace concert, art exhibition, eco-peace forum, & public lectures, will be held from May to November, mainly in the northern part of Gyeonggi-do & the DMZ.     The Iron Culture Festival is held at ‘Dalcheon Cheoljang,’ Korea’s first iron production site that dates back 2,000 years. Soeburi refers to Korea’s traditional iron-making process that produces iron ingots by melting earthenware or iron ore. At the festival, various exhibition & experience events will be held, including the ‘Subject Hall’ where visitors learn about the iron beak culture, the ‘Steel Making Experiment Center’ where they can learn the traditional iron making process firsthand with craftsmen, & the ‘Beak Iron (Soeburi) Blacksmith Shop’ where they can make their own hoe tool.     This traditional festival, which was selected as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2005 in global recognition of its heritage value, is a festival to ward off misfortune for the year and pray for prosperity.     The 'Joint Reenactment of King Jeongjo's Royal Parade' is Korea's largest royal parade that perfectly reenacts the eight-day large-scale procession held by King Jeongjo, the 22nd king of Joseon, in the year of Eulmyo (1795).
